As the Electric Vehicle (EV) industry grows in Australia, the need to get a more proactive glance at EV charging issues and solutions for strata buildings is at large.
Arguably one of the biggest transformations in the motor vehicle industry since the introduction of the Model T, has been the introduction of Tesla's Electric Vehicles (EV). Tesla has largely defined the EV market and inspired many of the major vehicle manufacturers to have a good look at the electric vehicle market.
Wattblock's Brisbane office is working closely with top Queensland universities to explore sustainability issues in strata buildings. Griffith University students recently published reports on solar PV, battery storage, and electric vehicle recharge in residential strata (see below).
A friend of mine bought a Tesla model S for his residential home in Chatswood. After paying for an upgrade to his switch box and running a new line from the switchbox to his detached garage at the back of the block and installing a Tesla home recharger, the additional cost on top of his new Tesla was ~$50,000.
Electric Vehicles (EV) and hybrid cars are set to soar in the coming years according to a recent research report from ClimateWorks Australia. Statistically the average strata building already has 2 vehicles requiring recharge in their carparks and could have as many as 20 by the year 2025.
