STM and Regis Towers win SGA Award

City of Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore gave out the awards at the Smart Green Apartments awards night on Tuesday 17th October.  Among the award winners we congratulate Maria Diswe from Strata Title Management for sustainability results at Regis Towers, a 646 unit, three tower complex.

Strata Title Management engaged Wattblock to conduct a sustainability assessment for Regis Towers in 2016.  The report revealed a huge opportunity for reducing energy and water costs.  Wattblock put Regis Towers forward to the City of Sydney where it was escalated into the Smart Green Apartments program.  

Wattblock project manager Ross McIntyre commented "Regis Towers is like a city unto itself.  There are three high rise towers, a hotel,  commercial lots, squash courts, swimming pools and a shared 11 storey underground car park."  Wattblock managed a lighting upgrade which achieved a 78% reduction in electricity usage for common area lights worth $113,438 a year in savings.  An electric vehicle charging roadmap was also drafted to assist the building with the future power demands on residents.

Among other awards winners there was Simon Ruben, strata committee member from Museum Towers, another Wattblock customer, Usher Mclachlan, building manager at Cambridge Management Services, Jiro Hseuh, building manager for the Summit, and Hugh McCormack, director of McCormacks Strata Management.  McCormacks was recognised for best Strata Management company with a total of ten strata schemes participating in Smart Green Apartments.

The evening included a panel discussion with Jiro, Simon and Maria joined by NABERS National Program Manager, Carlos Flores.  Melinda Dewsnap from the City of Sydney hosted the session.  NABERS for apartment buildings will introduce a star rating system for strata schemes in 2018.

Regis Towers was also used as a case study demonstrating water monitoring.  Regis Towers engaged with Sydney Water's Water Fix program to assist in the identification of water leaks and wastage.
