Strata buildings demand government support as electric vehicle adoption accelerates
Strata managers with customers in the City of Sydney LGA can now registerstrata buildings to receive a grant funded assessment and roadmap for electric vehicle recharging in their building.

Wattblock is running the program with assistance of Environmental Innovation grant funding from the City of Sydney. With demand from Queensland we are also looking to replicate the program in the sunny state. (Since expanded to nation wide study)

Participant buildings will receive:
  • Capacity charge analysis of the main switchboard
  • Tailored feasibility assessment for installing electric vehicle recharging
  • Solar and battery options to lower carbon emissions
  • Opportunity to become a demonstration site for electric vehicle recharging

Strata owners face a number of issues related to electric vehicle recharging, such as who to charge, how to bill, and how to accommodate the growing demand for electric vehicles. Due to the high level of interest in this subject, the City of Sydney has provided an the grant funding for a limited number of buildings to participate as part of their "Sustainable Sydney 2030" initiative.

According to Lord Mayor Clover Moore, “Improving the energy efficiency of buildings is the most cost effective way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. With more and more residents living in apartments, we are committed to assisting Owners Corporations reduce energy consumption and costs.”

Registration Process

Strata managers or building managers may register their own contact details rather than a building contact.  Provide your contact details via the following registration form.

A limited number of buildings (initially 20) will be selected for a fully funded deep dive assessment based on a screening process to ensure a representative sample.

The program is currently limited to the City of Sydney.  However, buildings that register from the broader NSW region and Queensland may still be eligible to receive information and study results. Contact Wattblock if you would like to discuss opportunities in other states.
