At Freesia Gardens we have one common garbage chute shaft which runs from the bottom to the top of the building. There is an exhaust fan on the roof which sucks the “smells” out the chute and sends it skywards. We actually had noise complaints from a new penthouse owner about the reverberations in the penthouse coming from the exhaust fan. However, we couldn’t turn this off completely as during summer the hot air rises up the vent and the penthouse lift bay gets hit with the worst garbage smell of all levels in the building. This time we got our sparky to install a timer on the garbage chute ventilation fan so that it only runs for 3 hours per day – between 11am and 2pm. This was installed in the switch room in the basement carpark. This gave us a win on power saving, a win on noise control and helped us maintain fresh air during the hottest summer days.
