Lagging the chain on “lagging”

9/2/2015

The hot water boilers are situated outside. The pipes which come immediately out of the gas hot water boilers are carrying the hottest water.

It makes sense to put pipe insulation (or lagging) around these sections of pipe coming from the boiler. It will retain the most heat within the pipe/water system at the point at which it is most desperate to escape into the atmosphere.

While we were getting the new lagging added to these pipes we found a water leak from a ball valve in the hot water system. We got this repaired at the same time which helped improve our water efficiency in the building.
After installing the lagging around the hot water boilers we saved money on our gas bill.
